Chinese Foot Binding

In the 10th century foot binding began and was not stopped until the 20th century. It was a tradition that all young girls would have their feet bound around the age of four or five.
Foot binding is were a girls foot would be tightly bound with bandages so that her toes would be tucked under her feet and her feet would stop growing. The reason for this was so that women could feet into elegant little shoes and this was believed to be attractive.

The Four Concerned

The Man
He lies forgotten ‘neath the watching skies,
The blood upon his bayonet scarlet bright;
The red moon shining in his glazed eyes,
The ‘Last Post’ crying, crying in the night.

The Woman

She proudly sits within her home of gloom,
And reads and reads his line with wistful smile,
Then, eyes aglisten, seeks the empty room.
(And he within his bloody grave the while.)

The Child

His wooden war-horse stands beside his bed.
His tiny pillow holds a head of gold.
He dreams of all the things his father said,
He dreams of all the tales his father told.

The Mum

She sits on the couch staring at his baby pictures.
Time passing by waiting for his return.
She has spent years dreaming up his futures.
Not knowing he would never get his turn.

My Wide Reading Novel

I have recently finished the book My Sisters Keeper.

My sister’s keeper is one of the best books I have ever read. It is filled with drama, excitement, tragedy and sometimes even comedy.

It is a story of two sisters of which one of them has acute promyelocytic leukemia.
Anna the youngest sister is brought into this world to be a donor for Kate and to give what ever she can to make Kate well.
When Anna reaches the age of 13 she is asked to donate a kidney. Anna is sick of having to under go surgery and go through so much pain for no benefit to herself what so ever and so she hires a lawyer t fight for her against her family for the right to her on body.
I will stop there because I don’t want to ruin the ending (which is nothing like the movie).
I would recommend this book to anyone. I think it is amazing and wish it never ended.

Peeling the Onion Review

Peeling the Onion Review

In my opinion Peeling the Onion was not a great book. I found that it was quite boring as there weren’t very many twists and it was very straight forward.

Because it was such a short book there was not great attention to detail in the characters which would have helped make the story more interesting.

In this story you could almost guess the ending. there were no unexpected twists or thrilling side tracks. It was just a classic story with no spin.

My role in Literature Circles was the Literary Luminary.
Although I did not enjoy the book very much I found some very powerful and emotional paragraphs that were amazingly written.

I rate this book 3/10 :(
